It’s not uncommon for a user to encounter “Your internet access is blocked” with the ERR_NETWORK_ACESS_DENIED error code, while attempting to visit a website. The user’s immediate inclination is to give up and go to another website, however, there are things you can and should try, to access the site.

“Your internet access is blocked” can appear without a moment’s notice. You could be browsing the web or attempting to access an important website, only to be greeted with that error notification. Given the very nature of the internet, with its large assortment of sites, it shouldn’t come of a surprise, as this regularly occurs for both organisations and individuals alike.

As the internet becomes a more crucial and integral part of our lives, so does the risks of using it. As more and more cyber threats emerge. The reaction to this is the litany of internet security tools that are designed to counter this reality. However, there are instances when these tools can, in their attempt to safeguard you system, inhibit your browsing experience.

Error Scenario

Our internet security suites are designed with the explicit purpose of protecting our systems. They do this, by filtering and monitoring our internet traffic. They act as middlemen, analysing all incoming and outgoing traffic for any foul play.

When suspicions of any potential threats arise, the security tool will react by blocking a specific site or restricting access altogether. While, in the vast majority of instances, such measures will suffice in protecting the system, there are instances when a legitimately safe app or website may get blocked – this is referred to as a “false positive”.

• Corrupted or outdated network driver: It’s possible your NIC driver has been corrupted or requires an update.
• Internet access has been restricted: Are you using the web at school, in a public setting or at work? If so, then it’s possible that certain restrictions have been placed on the network. If you so desperately need to access the site in question, then you will need to contact the web administrator.
• Internet Security Tool: As previously mentioned, most internet security tools come with firewall capabilities. The firewall’s responsibility is to filter your internet traffic. This can thus, result in blocked internet access or websites, during times of suspicion.

Now that we have laid down all the most common and potential reasons for the “Your internet access is blocked” error notification in your browser. Let’s take a look at the numerous ways you can fix it.

How to Fix It

When it comes to fixing just about any error on your system, you can never go wrong with the basics. So, first things first, consider restarting your system – and router (or modem).

If your router (or modem) doesn’t come with a power switch, then you will need to unplug it from the mains. Leave it unplugged (or switched off), for at least 1 minute. Then, power it back on again.

If a system and router (modem) reboot fails to fix the error, then I suggest you attempt the more sophisticated solutions outlined below.

Disable Internet Security Tool

The vast majority of internet security tools today come with their own firewall component. The antivirus tool is designed to detect and remove viruses, while the firewall filters your traffic. Thus, it’s the firewall that is typically more crucial, when looking at solutions to the “Your internet access is blocked” error.

So what can you do? Well, definitely, you’ll want to disable the firewall – if not permanently, at least temporarily, to determine whether or not it’s causing the site block.

The process of disabling the firewall, varies, depending on the brand and version of tool you have installed on your system.

However, if you’re currently using the built-in Windows Defender Firewall, then you can disable it by following the step-by-step instructions outlined in my post on fixing error 0x8007003b.

Reset Antivirus Scanner

There are those instances when an end user is incapable of accessing a website (“Your internet access is blocked”) due to the corruption or misconfiguration of their internet security tool. The “misconfiguration” could be the result of a malicious file or user intervention.

Either way, in situations like this, you can get around the problem by simply resetting your security tool.

The exact steps will naturally vary. However, if you use AVG (which is a very popular brand), then you can reset the tool by doing the following:

1. First, boot into your system as a full administrator.

2. Then, open up AVG, by double-clicking on its Desktop Icon.

3. Once AVG loads up, click on Menu.

4. Next, click on Settings.

5. This will bring up the Settings menu (which should default to General -> User Interface). Now, click on Troubleshooting.

6. On the Troubleshooting menu, scroll down, and then click on RESET TO DEFAULTS.

Clear Cache Data

The solution to the “Your internet access is blocked” error, may be as simple as just removing the stored cache data from your browser. It’s possible a malicious file got onto your system while surfing the web and is now adversely affecting your web experience.

Use Network Troubleshooter

Windows comes with a number of built-in troubleshooters that are designed to scan, detect and fix a wide range of issues on your system. Fortunately, Windows has a troubleshooter, specifically for network problems. Thus, you may want to consider running it to fix the “Your internet access is blocked” error.

To run this tool, simply follow the steps below:

1. Boot into your system as an admin.

2. Then press + I, and click on Network & Internet.

3. This will bring up the Network & Internet menu, now click on Status.

4. From the Status menu, scroll down, and click on Network troubleshooter, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Delete Chrome Profile to Fix “Your Internet Access is Blocked” Errors

If all of the solutions up to this point have failed to fix the “Your internet access is blocked” error, then you may want to try something more drastic. This solution is solely for Google Chrome users. Essentially, you are deleting your Chrome profile, as it could quite possibly be corrupted. To do that, follow the steps below:

WARNING: Erasing your Chrome Profile, will delete all your saved browsing data that includes, bookmarks, passwords, history, etc…

1. First, boot into your PC as an admin.

2. Then press + R, type %LOCALAPPDATA%/Google/Chrome/User Data/ and click on OK.

3. This will bring up the User Data folder, from here, locate, then click on the Default folder and select Rename (rename it to default.old).

4. Close the folder, then restart the System. Now you can verify whether or not the problem as has been solved.
