Installation

After you’ve downloaded the file, you’ll need to run through the installation process, which is relatively simple, and very fast, when compared to its competitors.

The installation took less than 1 minute to install, and that includes the virus definition update process. So it’s very quick (as I’ve already stated).

Once the installation process completed, I ran the security tool, and the first thing it asked me for, was my email address, but giving it, was totally optional.

Antivirus Protection

ShieldApps, who are the developers of Shield Antivirus, use a similar detection engine for most of their products, which includes Ransomware Defender. Shield Antivirus installs with active protection enabled, which means you immediately receive protection from malicious files.

I tested this program to monitor its efficiency. I was running it on a Quad core processor, with 8GB of RAM and a 1.5TB hard drive(s). The operating system was Windows 7.

It was able to find a couple of malicious files during the testing process.

Most of the antivirus tools that I’ve used, and are currently using, were unable to find anything, under the same circumstances, while Shield Antivirus was. Both the Quick and Deep scans were able to detect the same bunch of viruses.

One annoyance I found with it, was its detection engines ability to detect and identify certain tools as PuP, and although it’s not really an issue, it can be rather annoying, when your antivirus software tells you, an application that you installed, was/is potentially unwanted. Fortunately it is possible to turn this feature off, so it can be easily rectified, for someone in the same position as me.

That aside, its virus detection rate, is amongst the very best, significantly better than anything I’ve test, up to date. Shield Antivirus is currently OPSWAT Gold Certified, which is a test for product quality, accuracy and compatibility. This is understandable, given the experience I had using the product.

Impact on System Performance

Shield Antivirus is, for the most part, a very fast and light tool. It was designed to use minimal system resources. Which is why I didn’t notice any significant drops in performance while I was running a scan on my computer with active protection enabled. During system scan, it used no more than 2% of CPU resources and 12% of System Memory.

Again, Shield Antivirus is an OPSWAT Gold Certified product, which would explain, why I was able to get such great results, while running this tool.

Scanning Performance

When compared to other internet security tools, the Quick Scan feature does take considerably longer to complete, than any competitor tool I’ve used, but it’s a very efficient Quick Scan,

Again, I was very much impressed by how unnoticeable it was, while running in the background, carrying out a scan, whether Quick and Deep Scan, felt very seamless.

User Interface

Shield Antivirus has a dark and relatively modern user interface. You can move the interface around the desktop, but you cannot resize it. It’s a very self-explanatory tool, with large icons and text. Navigating around this tool is easy with clear and easy to follow option screens.

Conclusion

To conclude this Shield Antivirus review, I’d say that this software is very efficient, ideal for all user types. Shield Antivirus is capable of detecting a plethora of virus types, including Potentially Unwanted Programs. The Quick Scan feature works just as good as most antivirus tools Deep Scan feature. Scanning is thorough and dependable.
